The Eternal Nightmare over Gramercy

Chelsea Grin has been through so much, and no matter what they went through, they have secured and always maintained their spot on the legacy of what makes Dethcore such an amazing, important and memorable genre. Their new vocalist Tom, completely made this group his own, perfoming old school classics such as Recreant and completely making it his own.

Chelsea Grin are no strangers to Gramercy Theater, in fact when they play there, it’s practically an occasion. When they kicked in with Recreant, many fans were shocked being that this is a song they normally save for the end, but instead, they came out with guns blazing and did not let go for the rest of the night. They followed up with another classic from Dessolation of Eden with Sonnet of the Wretched and right from there we catch up to the present from their newest album, Eternal Nightmare with Dead Rose, 9:30 am and Limbs followed by the title track from My Damnation. After another Eden classic with Cheyene Strokes, they continued to decimate with another new song being Outliers and then brought us back to 2016s Self Inflicted with Broken Bonds. We get another throw back to the old days with Lifeless off their Self Titled record, only to resurface back to the present with Nobody Listened and Across the earth. After some more throwbacks to Self Inflicted with Skin Deep and Ashes to Ashes with Playing with Fire, they seal the nail in the breakdown coffin with Hostage off their newest album.

During all of these songs, the band, production and audience held their momentum and brutality. The lights created the illusion of a chaotic new reality while the band executed these songs perfectly. Even with a new vocalist and only one guitarist, it is still Chelsea Grin and the rage we all know and love that decimates through the week and delivers chaos from one side of the room to the other.

The audience with their crowdkilling and participation has become just as important and prevalent at a Chelsea Grin concert as the band itself. The audience seems to be as much of a member of this group as Tom, Pablo, Stephen and David. Their movement and insanity is just as brutal and essential as the music itself.

While we have seen many incarnations of this group, their performance at Gramercy Theater 11/14/19 is a testament that they are here to stay and nothing will slow them down.
