Thousand Below – Let go of Your Love Ep

Thousand Below is an important band for us, as they were the last in person interview we did before the lockdown hit New York City. Their last full length album Gone in Your Wake demonstrated tons of progression and emotion, showing that this band is ready to take the world by storm. Like their fellow label mates on Rise Records, Thousand Below took their previous efforts and remixed them to have a more acoustic and tender vibe behind it. Some could argue that if the machine isn’t broken, don’t fix it, but with many dedicated fans starving for new content, Thousand Below rose to the occasion of remixing songs and giving them a whole new lease of life. With a new song included on this EP as well, this is the perfect EP to resonate with many people at this time.

Opening up with the track that is seeing the light of day for the first time, Let Go of Your Love, it paves a frictionless path for the rest of the EP. With a very mesmerizing and serenading vocal style that is tranquil and peaceful, it moves beautifully and has a great way of having atmosphere build up. The nice and tender as the acoustics strum and gently lead you through the composition and instantly makes the EP easy to immerse yourself in. The next track Chemical is a little more computer driven in having more technical rhythmic styles incorporated and more harmonies incorporated to keep it engaging. Alone out of my head is granted a whole new lease of life that has a full vocal range of Jimmy sustaining certain notes to pull you into the EP even further. This optimistic melody makes the song both catchy and serenading. 171xo continues that momentum of catchiness while the lyrics move at a faster pace. Many different vibes are felt in just one composition alone, having sides that are optimistic and others that can be more melancholy. Ending on a more somber note with Lost Between the tenderness is incorporated once again with a style in like what we heard in Chemical, having more computer oriented instrumentals. It has the ability to make us think about the better days that were behind us while also making us look forward to the better days that are ahead of us.

Thousand Below has always had the ability to leave fans wanting more with their experimental style and emotional lyricism that is relatable for so many. This EP gave us an epic new track that can serve as the soundtrack to these times while giving their older songs a brand new lease of life. Though this is an EP, it has all the strength and energy of a full length double album.
