The Realm of Pelican

Pelican is 100% raw when it comes to instrumental music. Pelican is able to make you question if a singer is necessary to deliver emotion, power and setting.

Pelican’s performance at Brooklyn Bazaar Monday 6/24 was a testament to less being more when it comes to music. With their new album Nighttime Stories out and everyone loving it, Pelican brought a packed house. One thing that made this particular instrumental show interesting was the production. Many heavier instrumental bands such as Animals as Leaders, Chon, Intervals, ect have always had just as much emphasis on lighting and stage production as much as executing their sound. While that definitely adds to the experience, how much would it take away without it? Pelican was just as raw on stage as they were with the execution of their sound. By having a simple setup and nothing to separate the audience from the band, you got the fullest experience with Pelican. You were able to appreciate the technical excellence that they are able to play with the guitar soloing, the mesmerizing performance on how the members moved with the rhythm and experience so much emotion and atmosphere.

From impressive, shredding soloing to the darkest and most distorted riffs, Pelican delivers every type of emotion and setting you can experience at the show, and whether you were in the back of the venue or practically sitting on the stage, you were in the realm of Pelican one way or another.
