Bloodbather – Silence Review

Chaos is practically a genre at this point. Many bands have been pushing the boundaries of how relentless and how heavy songs can go. Some bands are able to push the boundaries of sound while others simple take the familiar routs of song structure and completely rewrite the rules on their own.

Bloodbather delivers their own signature sound of madness in their new album Silence. This killing spree of a disc incorporates raw energy and power and pushes the boundaries of how much you can alter song structures. Just when you think you have this album figured out, there will always be some form of experimentation that deviates from the path and takes you on a new one.

Opening with the tracks  God and Silence, they instantly demonstrate a futuristic and suspenseful sound with their hard hitting riffs. The vocals waste no time in demonstrating their technical capabilities from having raw and high pitched screams to the most guttural growls imaginable. There is an easy hardcore foundation within their chaotic structure that makes it easy to keep up with the madness. The momentum is carried into Erase but more contrast is demonstrated in the instrumentation that helps elevate the voice even further. With their use of breakdowns and stints of somewhat clean guitar tone, they deliver an essence of emotion with their intensity. Disappear has a lot of groove in the sound and very catchy rhythm all while maintaining the horror in their aggression. Void carries a little bit of the groove over with the suspenseful bass intro all while delivering rhythm that is catchy and purely hard hitting. Ending with Cold, mystery is carried over for the final track with a subtle use of atmospheric melody that makes the whole album fade into obscurity. Ending on this note, Bloodbather will fully envelope you into the catacomb of darkness and also delivers an essence of suspense to let you know that this group is just getting started.

With their relentless and experimental qualities, Bloodbather is able to pull everything we think we know apart and put it back together in Silence.
