The Rocking 20s

It cannot be said enough, rock is anything but dead. With so many genres evolving, there is nothing like returning to the roots and reinforcing it amongst many young lovers of the genre. Every rock band has been able to take from the predecessors and develop their own identity, and further inspiring other young bands, thus keeping the cycle of rock going. With the 2020s starting off strong, here are 12 bands that continue to carry the torch of the genre that will never die.

Dirty Honey

Many bands have really climbed down the rock N roll tree and dug beneath the roots. Dirty Honey is one of them. Dirty Honey takes everything we know and love about classic rock bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and more and delivers a great new school charm behind it. They really got their foot in the door on their tour with Alter Bridge and Skillet and now selling out many clubs on their recent Rolling 7s tour, Dirty Honey is here to stay, brining elements of the past and making them part of the future.

Eat your Heart Out

With the reunion of My Chemical Romance, many fans have been diving back into their style of rock and emo, rekindling their love for bands such as The Used, Paramore and Funeral for a Friend. Eat Your Heart Out takes the emotional beauty we all know and love from a familiar formula and makes it as fresh it can be. Their latest album Florescence creates beauty, emotion and movement like many artists in the genre we all know and love. Hitting the road with Jimmy Eat World this year, Eat your Heart Out is ready to capture the hearts of many fans.

Saul

These guys are heroes in more ways than one. With some of their members serving in the military, they are now ready to take the strength they utilized and bring it to the stage. They are a band that uses pain, convert it to strength, and deliver a sonic energy that confronts their demons, and in turn will help listeners fight theirs. Their Aeons EP takes everything we know and love from bands such as Disturbed, Staind, Breaking Benjamin and Demon Hunter and creates their own unique sonic beauty that is ready to take over Sirius XM Octane.

Joyous Wolf

Joyous Wolf is another band that brings a sound that is familiar, yet fresh. With their latest album Place in Time capturing the attention of many older and newer rock fans, as well as tearing up the USA with legends, Deep Purple, Joyous Wolf has barley scratched the surface and they are ready to show you what they are capable of with their signature sound of classic rock.

BRKN Love

Modern Rock, Classical Rock, Alternative Rock and everything in between. BRKN Love is a smorgasbord of all different styles of rock and therefor, don’t have a required taste. BRKN Love has the ability to give a listener strength and goosebumps at the same time. Their debut self titled album delivers emotion, attitude, groove and technical excellence that is ready to echo around the world and back.

Dead Posey

A band that brings catchiness, groove and attitude as well as a for of imagery that makes them stand out both sonically and visually in the realm of rock. Dead Posey has played at many North American Festivals such as Louder than Life and After Shock and are ready to turn every single club they play into an audience of that magnitude. Their latest single Fire Burning is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to demonstrating how they decimate through the week with their sound and style.

Badflower

As we mentioned in our last article, The Roaring 2020s, Badflower is already developing a cult following of dedicated fans who resonate with the passion and sound behind them. With their 2019 release of Ok, Im Sick, and concurring the world on their tour with Nothing More, Badflower delivers an emotional and relatable album that has nothing to hide and nothing to fear. They are able to translate this music to their live presence and create an interactive performance that makes everyone from one side of the venue to the other feel what Josh is demonstrating in the album.

Idle Hands

Another band that cannot be talked about enough. This band is only 3 years old and is already taking the world by storm. After the release of their beautiful album Mana in 2019, which incorporates gothic rock and classic rock, they were put to the test on their fall tour with King Diamond, and everyone welcomed them with open arms. Now they are ready to do it again on the Decibel Magazine tour with Mayhem, Abbath and Gatecreepr. With emotionally dark anthems such as Jackie or Double Negative, only to have down and dirty songs such as Give me to the Night, Idle Hands may still be a puppy in the realm of rock, but they have many tricks to demonstrate.

Fredo Disco

Alternative rock is a timeless genre at this point. While classic bands in the genre have set the standard high, Fredo Disco brings their own signature spin on it, incorporating elements of punk, pop and more experimental elements. They have been killing it on the Have Mercy farewell tour and they are ready to take every stage that they are opening and make it their own. Their latest album Very Cool Music for Very Cool People delivers a fun and easy listen that will leave the audience hungry and wanting more, and being that Fredo Disco already released two new singles and are plotting for the next release, they are just as hungry as their fans.

Kissin Dynamite

Kissing Dynamite is a sonic and visual timewarp. Many people got their first taste of this classic reinvention of rock n roll on 70000 tons of metal this year and many people have gravitated towards albums such as their 2018 release of Ecstasy and Cadillac Maniac. They bring the classic 80s sound from bands such as Mötley Crüe and Poison while also delivering a power like no other in their sound. Kissin Dynamite brings a fun and easy vibe to another sound that is familiar yet unique.

Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown

2019 Spawned some great rock albums from both veterans and new artists and Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown are one of them. Delivering elements of emotion and power behind the sound of Down and Dirty Rock. Their newest album Truth and Lies, released in 2019 delivers technical excellence as well as a style of arrangement that is fun, impressive and constantly in your face as well as saying that there is plenty of gas left in the tank.

Kobra and the Lotus

Kobra and the Lotus is a band that shows just how powerful rock can really be. Playing with artists such as Xandria one minute, only to be opening for Sebastian Bach the next, they prove that there is now age requirement, taste requirement, or requirement of any kind to become one with the rock. Their latest album Evolution on Napalm Records got many more people on board, and also created plenty of room to get more people on. With the vocal range and performance of Kobra Paige combined with the rhythmic and shredding elements in the instrumentals, Kobra and the Lotus are able to take the world by storm and leave a mark that will echo into the realm of rock for generations to come.

Narrowing this down to just 12 artists was next to impossible, and there will probably be a part 2 to this article fairly soon. In the end, with so many genres in the realm of rock and heavy metal, and new ones constantly being created, rock is a genre that will outlive any time, and these bands are helping keeping the sound echoing through the universe for generations to come.
