Thunderpussy at Brooklyn Bowl, A night of rock and friendship

Many bands such as Greta Van Fleet, The Jacks or Dirty Honey have been reinforcing the classic sound of Rock N Roll, reminiscent of bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Scorpions or even Black Sabbath. It is a sound that is familiar yet fresh. Thunderpussy is another band that is able to take this sound we all know and love and not turn up to 11, but turn it up to 12. With their familiar yet fresh sound, crowd interaction, stage presence and freedom on stage, they reinforce the sound of classic rock and at the same time, deliver an essence of freedom on stage like no other.

On August 9th, 2019 at Brooklyn Bowl, a crowd eagerly waited on the crowded floor in the bowling alley/venue waiting for Thunderpussy to take the stage. You see the four members walking down the stairs behind the stage knowing that a night of fun was coming. The lights dimmed and guitarist Whitney grabbed the violin bow and delivered a beautiful sonic sound on her Gibson as if Jimmy Page possessed her soul. Drummer, Ruby and bassist Leah took the stage and Molly grabbed the microphone and everything kicked in at once. Once the music started, there was not a single static moment on stage. The band moved along with their music essentially making this as much performance art as a musical performance. The way Molly was able to move around with her voice, it was exotic, hypnotic and mesmerizing all at the same time. For her to go full range while having this motion is truly remarkable. Leah and Whitney were able to move just as much.

Thunderpussy has a style that cannot hide behind the smokescreen of distortion and gain. It was the guitar, drums, bass and vocals and what you were seeing is what you get. If a note were to be slightly botched, you would have heard it. Whitney and Leah were moving around, they were able to maintain the melody and rhythm of the music without a single slipup. All of this was going on combined with the lights of the disco ball and the strobes and different color lights going on. To demonstrated their technical capabilities without standing still for a millisecond is impressive beyond belief.

In addition to the great execution of their material, their technical capabilities and insane stage presence, the crowd interaction was the icing on the cake. Whitney and Molly were engaging with every single fan on that floor no matter how close or far. Molly later told people to look at the person to their left, right, front or back and shake their hand and introduce yourselves. Amazing music was heard and friendships were definitely made. It is always great when the band interacts with the crowd, but the fact they were able to make the crowd interact with each other is another skill all together. Thunderpussy not only has the technical excellence that make them a great band, but they have the interactive capabilities that make the live presence enjoyable to watch and be a part of it. You are just as much a part of the show as the band is.

A Thunderpussy show is more than just a rock concert, it is a night of positive vibes and friendships. The sound of classic rock combined with bowling pins getting knocked down at Brooklyn Bowl is a sonic experience that will forever be ringing in the ears.

Another band that proves that rock is far from dead.
